Case Study

Mr. Neil McQuade is a popular close up magician based in Newcastle upon Tyne. When approaching us in January 2010 he already had a website with high ranking of Google search results. However, Neil felt that without a professional showreel his website could not achieve its full potential to promote his business. He indeed needed an attention grabber to effectively stop passing traffic online. 

We took the planning process as a journey to discover Neil as a magician and a person. We recognised that his professional skills, attributes and likeability would contribute to the credibility of his showreel. We wanted his potential clients to see the qualities that make him a great entertainer, deep thinker, gentle soul with a big heart and gifted man passionate about his work. Hence we decided to start the showreel with a powerful opening and finish it in serenity to create an enlightened atmosphere. We used a lot of lens flares to style the whole project and at the same time to reflect Neil’s energy. The coordinated styling can be seen in the animated titles, camerawork, transitions of editing and postproduction.

This showreel was focused on the feedbacks from the spectators rather than tricks. People trust their peers therefore the best way to persuade online audience is to let the spectators speak for Neil. The filming process on our side was silent, silent and strictly silent. We did not intend to interfere anyone because staged interviews would have worked against the purpose of this project. Genuine reactions are the key to a credible showreel like this. Results:

Quotation Mark When I needed a showreel for my website I had no idea who to contract with so I contacted random production companies via Google search. On discussing my requirements with Six Filming, it became obvious to me that they understood exactly what I required, and so, they produced for me, what I consider to be a very professional showreel within a budget and time scale required.

Within a week of adding the showreel to my site, I have doubled the enquiries for my work…..enough said.
